It won't be denied that our very own favourite cup of coffee does get a pretty bad name sometimes, but if you live and breathe it like we do, you would see that it's just a case of misunderstanding.
So here, let's smash a few of these right out of the ball park so you know the real deal about that little bean that keeps you kicking. Hold on to your cup of coffee because some of these might blow your mind.
Coffee for Weight Loss
While caffeine can slightly raise your metabolic rate and briefly lower your appetite, it really doesn't have enough of an impact to make any real difference in weight loss. That temporary energy increase may get you to do a bit more exercise, however, and that's helpful in maintaining weight.
Coffee Stunts Your Growth
If this were true, there'd be a lot of very small people buzzing around, especially at High Voltage Coffee Co. While kids shouldn't drink coffee for other reasons, there's no evidence that it stunts growth.
Pregnant Women Shouldn't Drink Coffee
Pregnant women should also restrict caffeine intake to 200 milligrams or about one normal cup per day, but do not need to cut it out altogether. The chemical passes easily into the baby's blood flow but there is no sure sign that it will cause damage to them. Be sure to address this further with your doctor, as with everything.
Coffee Causes Disease
There is no evidence to prove that coffee drinking can cause cancer, heart disease, high cholesterol, or any other fatal diseases. Instead, various studies show that caffeine has some positive effects on health.
A Cup of Coffee Sobers You Up
Sadly, this one isn't true. While caffeine may make a person feel more alert, it won't actually sober them up. If you have alcohol in your system, you can't count on coffee to make you safe for driving or other activities.
Caffeine is Addictive
Although caffeine does work by stimulating the central nervous system, any addiction is very slight. It's almost not worthy of consideration, so drink up.
Coffee Dehydrates You
Nope. The water in your coffee balances out the dehydrating effects of the caffeine. You still need to drink your eight glasses of water a day, but there's no need to skip your coffee.
Afternoon Coffee Causes Insomnia
Coffee is a stimulant, but it passes through your liver rather quickly—within four to seven hours, 75% is flushed out. Therefore, there's no worrying about losing sleep over an afternoon cup of coffee.
There you go some of the most prevalent coffee myths, debunked. Enjoy that special cup of coffee we know you want it.
